Gateway to the World

Dennis, 31 years, Barmbek-Nord

I grew up in a small town where opportunities were limited and social structures were fixed. When I moved to Hamburg, it felt like I finally had the chance to grow. For me, Hamburg is the “gateway to the world” – a city full of diversity, opportunities and unlimited possibilities. What particularly fascinates me here is that it doesn’t matter how other people see you, it’s more about what you do with your life. This diversity and boundlessness can be seen in the different parts of the city: there are parts of Hamburg that almost feel like the countryside, with lots of nature, forests and water. Other parts have the charm of a small town and reflect a quieter, more familiar atmosphere. And then there are the vibrant districts that showcase Hamburg’s metropolitan character. Hamburg really does offer something for everyone.
