Here I was born – here I shall stay

Anonymous, 55 years, Rahlstedt

To me Hamburg is home – on one hand, because of my family and my neighbourhood Rahlstedt, where we all live. On the other hand, it’s home because of the diversity I experience every day in Hamburg. Immersing myself in the big city or feeling completely safe and sound amidst my family and neighbours. The action, subculture and noise in the city centre, where I also enjoy working, where art and culture often make me happy or lead me to new insights. The harbour, to which I feel very connected to through my dad and my work, beautiful and tough at the same time. The birdsong and the unspoilt nature at home on the outskirts of the city. It’s the contrasts, that I enjoy so much. Nowhere else have I lived longer than here in Hamburg, and yet I keep discovering new things. Above all, the people I know here and meet every day are friendly, tolerant, helpful and open-minded. You could probably say all of these things about various cosmopolitan cities. But only Hamburg is my home. Here I was born – here I shall stay
